There's an interview with him after this race where he explains the amount of preparation that goes into this. This is not amateur hour. He prepares like any good student would, getting ready for a final exam. He makes flashcards with the names of the horses, the numbers and silk colors they will be sporting on race day. He not only prepares flashcards for the horses that are on the entry list, but also for the alternates, in case a horse gets pulled out, which is what happened when Rich Strike got in, at the last minute.

Larry, in plain sight here, makes a great call of it by his exclamation, based on the developing final result.

I've never seen this view before. That was awesome. To listen to the call is one thing. But to add the video of the call is the gravy on the chicken fried steak, the grilled onions and jalapenos in the burger, and the alfredo sauce on the fettincine!

So many people bitched about how he didn’t mention Rich Strike until he took the lead. This video illustrates so well how difficult this job is and how prepared you need to be. He called it perfectly.

Watching Larry call the horses is so much fun. AND when he called Rich Strike coming up on the wire and then won......he was fun to watch.😅 How the heck does he remember all the horses names and silk colors. He's an amazing caller. What a race that was. I was so happy for Team Rich Strike. I love THAT kind of race and winner. AMEN
