When I watched this live I knew that Collmus had blown the call. I saw the winner moving up on the rail before he came through that hole, and knew he was going to burst through to be the winner. Collmus didn't see it and, as others have said, he never acknowledged MD in the lead (he had at least THREE lengths) until 1/4 to go. It was a terrible mistake. Maybe he should buy a horse and call it MissedIt Larry.

That was one of the best rides I have ever seen. If you checked Mystik Dans races he runs like a monster on the rail. Brian got him to the rail , actually hustled him out to get that perfect trip position. Had to have a ton of balls to squeeze through at the top of the stretch and that is why that horse won. Otherwise the 2 closers would have passed him. Also Sierra Leone should have been placed 3rd for bumping and taking the 11's path throughout the stretch run..

Exactly! My grandparents were so frugal but they had a TON of money on both sides. I remember my grandfather telling me "you want to make money while you sleep." And I guess that attitude passed down to my dad (RIP), because I remember going to his house one day and I had bought something I really liked, so I wanted to show it to him. So I said "Look at this! Isn't it cute? It was on sale...I saved 50%!" My dad replied "Well, if you're spending, you're not saving." Obviously I had no retort, and that has always stuck with me.

For some reason the race announcer for the Derby seems to miss the call on the horse on the rail breaking in front down the stretch! Remember Mine That Bird! Same thing happen! Must be a blind spot !

Dave Collmus did flub his Derby call this year like Durkin did in 2009. Dave was focused on Resilience and said he was leading when Mystic Dan on his inside was actually leading. Perhaps his binoculars made him myopic at that moment. It’s ok. He’s only human. Not every call will be perfect. Still not as bad as Tom’s in 2009. Mine That Bird was already 3-4 lengths clear by the time Tom said his name.

If the 2 (Sierra Leone) wasn't bumping hard into 11 (Forever Young), 11 would have won by a head over 2. The 3 (Mystic Dan) would have been another head behind in third.

Well you may very well see it that way...but consider that #3 Mystic Dan...had to literally push the lead horse out of the way to get into the lead... that's a thousand pounds to push aside and still get by without going over the rail... for a small horse that was a winning act of courage....in my books! He literally gave it all he had...and won only by a whisker...and not even another stride... but he won! Even Hernandez knew it.... is why he put his stick away.....he could not be persuaded, he gave it all, he had nothing left!

Uco1235 I don't know who you are, but I love you. That's exactly the way I saw it. And for MD shoving a bigger horse over to get through, how about carrying a bigger horse for nearly a quarter of a mile and just missing by a nose?
