Wow!!! NY Traffic ran a monster race...for a second he looked like Arrogate coming down the stretch .

Authentic looked brilliant and then got a tad bored- but luckily he woke back up & won like he should have easily!♡

@@TheJustjim3333 I think it was a little of both actually. Smith did not exactly ask Authentic at anytime either. Just a hand ride. Authentic is probably not for 10 furlongs but Bob may take a shot at the Derby with him. There is not a whole lot of speed in the race just yet. Tiz The Law would get him though. Authentic dusted Dr Post who just got heaped with a ton of praise for his Belmont. Nowhere to be found here.

@@bnegs521 he went his last eighth a little over 13 seconds and really was no match for Honor AP last out...and early fractions for this caliber of horses were pretty soft

@@TheJustjim3333 he ran rated fractions actually of 23 and 47 and change. I do not expect you to understand the concept of rated fractions. But in short explanation for a mile and a quarter race if a horse runs rated fractions of 24 48 112 136 and 2 minutes for a mile and a quarter the horse will win or be right there more often than not. Bob baffert understands this concept and has adopted it as does mike smith. Also victor understood this so well aboard american Pharoah's grand slam of racing run in 2015. The horse does not have to go out 22 and 45 109 like they once did to please a novice like you because they wont be around at the end. I dont expect for a novice like you to understand these concepts and I dont have the time to teach them to you free of charge. RATED FRACTIONS. Try to remember that next time you watch a race at a mile and a quarter or a mile and an eighth for 3 year olds. When you get the front end you I make the PACE to your liking. Not wasting yourself by the mile pole and you have an eighth of a mile to go. Glad I got to teach you this free lesson. More will cost you though.

Authentic has been my derby pick for months now, I even have a $50 future win bet on him in the Kentucky Derby at 6-1, however I also question his ability to get a mile and a quarter, It seems that a mile and an eight is about as far as he may be able to go, seems that Tiz and Honor AP may be more suited for the derby distance. But never count Baffert out he knows how to prepare his horses for a big race. I still think Tiz and Honor AP have the best chances to win the derby but see Authentic as a very close third, still alot can happen before September and should it rain on derby day, that could improve Authentic's chances. Authentic is STILL the horse to catch in the far turn of the Kentucky Derby.

That finish line couldn't come soon enough for Authentic. The longer distances are not his cup of tea. NY Traffic, and Paco Lopez, never gave up. Almost looked like a dead heat.

He Was Handriding The Entire Race And NY Traffic Was Backing Up & I Was Surprised By His Burst Of Speed To Nearly Catch Authentic. Btw? Kudos To Governor Murphy For Allowing A Limited Attendance For Haskell Day At Monmouth Park. There Was Energy & Life & All The Protocols Were Taken. The Meadowlands is racing with spectators since Jul 2. Why not Monmouth Park. Both are in New Jersey.

I wish they would include the photo finish replay so that I would know for sure who won instead of having to look it up or check the comments...

Why does it always have to turn into ego bashing trainer bashing jockey bashing and sport bashing when people comment?? You all should go sit in the time-out chair.. can't you just appreciate the horses, no matter how it's done a win is a win. should not be a form for haters

...yes, too much bashing and hating, don't know why people just can't enjoy these magnificent athletes.

This is the horse that Tiz the Law will be running at deep stretch in the derby and this is my ice cold exacta! Tiz looks like a slam dunk winner, however in horse racing you never know when any horse may regress and if Tiz does regress or have bad racing luck, Authentic could be wearing Rose's in the end! Baffert will have him ready to run!

I remember when Mike Smith rode that one really good filly, I was at the track he didn’t whip what so ever and then when he saw the horse next to him run him down then he went to the whip but it was already too late.

Hit a horizontal pick 5 bet.. single here with authentic and global campaign 2 races beforehand. Pick 5 paid nice!

I singled Authentic but also used the 2 with Global Campaign. He fought back to get that win! The 11 in the last and that 5 brought the money. Arklow is such a huge dud.

Only reason he got close is because Smith was hand riding Authentic(watch the 3 horses behind Authentic through the stretch all with whips out and working, not Smith) thinking he was clear. When he heard the track announcer say "and here comes NY Traffic" he went to riding and the whip. Had Smith been on the ball NY Traffic would have never been withing a length. Would have been a huge embarrassment for Smith had he lost this.

Authentic still is somewhat green running these races. Very nice horse though.

Nice horse the winner but was paddling the last 1/2 furlong! I am a big Bob baffert fan but these instances of cross contamination failed test stories very Strange?? This horse will run a decent race in the Derby but will be vulnerable to strong closers.

@@lari2294 Smith is FOS, however unfocused Authentic was, Smith was hand riding the entire stretch and almost blew it!

Baffert explained yesterday they meanwhile learned Authentic only responds to a left hand whip, not a right hand whip. And you can clearly see that in the finishing stages of this race, where the horse does not react at all to the whip.

This sounds like Frank Miramonte. Thought for a second it was Santa Anita.

If it wasnt for the comments...wouldn't know who won !!

You say that the Derby, Preakness, and Belmount are 300 years of tradition etc. They have only been around for 100 and some years. You dont add them all up together. It would only be 100 and some years of tradition.

José hace un tiempo vi un video de una carrera en del mar,, muy extenso el mismo premio bastante elevado....6 ejemplares,,, el caballo montado x mike smit cerró con un momio exageradamente prohibitivo ...( creo a 1x5 ) Una partida espantosa,, ..los ejemplares que llegaron al tablero hicieron un pago escandaloso a los 3 lugares.....da que pensar o. No ?
