I love the horse races, when I was a kid my dad would hook up the boat and tell my mom we were going to the lake.....so she wouldn’t get mad. We were the only people in the parking lot with a boat at the horse races.

The HILARIOUS part was NBC saying that 'Authentic barely held off a fast charging Tiz The Law' LMFAO Tiz The Law was finished. I wonder how TTL would have done at 1 1/2 miles in the real Belmont- not a race that should have been called Belmont Stakes Prep at that distance.

He was dead last 16 lengths back and gets beat 5 lengths, if he was in the race mid pack where he should have been he probably wins, but we will never know, MS said he didn’t get ahold of the track, but he closed pretty good for not liking the track.

The last horse I remember being 3/5 in the Derby was the Easy Goer entry, woops! Don't see it as THAT huge an upset though thought it would be a super longshot. 8/1 in the Derby is like 7/2 in a normal race...

@@bongobongo985 as a horse person I LOVE watching horse racing but the industry is messed up. Many horses are overtrained, they race too many horses together, they run in dangerous conditions and they begin being raced at 2 years old and run in huge races at 3. All of this results in far too many deaths of horses on racetracks. If these issues were fixed and training didn't begin until age 3 and the horses didn't run in big races until 4, it would be better (horses bones would be more developed resulting in less broken legs on racetracks) The sport is old, glamorous and incredible (nicknamed the Sport of Kings) but it needs reform. That is why horse people tend to dislike it. Hope this helped :)

@@vambo13257 Just like in the NFL, it isnt a MASSIVE upset if the favorite loses. Our point is the horse that won was 3rd best odds. Just because it is large compared to 1st doesnt mean it is large zoomed out. There were many more horses with lesser odds and you cant get much bigger than *massive*

Yes, and no. In a race where there is such a big gap between three of the betting favorites (the fourth one scratched late), and the rest of the field, this is no surprise. If you follow the Derby, you will see that at least 60% of the time a "long shot" will finish in the top 4 positions. That's where the money is...Superfectas!! There are so many horses that are 30-1 or worse, that big pay-offs happen a lot. If he had run second, I would have lost. He was one of 3 horses that I did not have running second. I learned the hard way, to just see long shots in a race with 18-20 horses(like a typical Derby) as "ALL'S" when betting. Yes, it takes a lot of money, but it's worth it when betting the Derby.

Terrible trip for Honor AP, but he still fought for it. He’s a stunning looking TB.

What happened did MSLSD start covering horse racing? Now let's get rid of all the crazy camera angles that make me feel like I'm on drugs when I'm trying to watch the Breeder's cup!

Authentic was my original favorite to win several months ago. As my handicapping skills improved, I dropped him in favor of others like Tiz, but I still had the belief he could possibly pull it off, and the hope that he just might. THIS, was an absolute miracle, and the best moment of the summer. WELL DONE!!!! :D

Stunning to me that Authentic went off at 8-1. I totally agree with Tiz The Law being the favorite. But not at 3-5. I also thought Authentic would be around 4 to 5-1. He is a very talented horse and has a trainer that is the best in history at getting horses ready for these races.

I agree. Minus thousands of screaming fans, and a more relaxed atmosphere, I figured we'd see impressive winning times. The intense atmosphere of the Triple Crown series takes a lot out of a young 3yo horse; principally why, after a century of the Derby, Preakness, and Belmont being run, 13 colts are immortalized as Triple Crown champions: Count Fleet, Whirlaway, Seattle Slew, Omaha, Sir Barton(1st), War Admiral, Citation, Gallant Fox, Affirmed, Assault, American Pharaoh, Justify, and the great Secretariat.

Tiz the Law was clearly tired. Baffert is smart, he keeps his horses lightly raced. Honor AP had a terrible trip, looked like Zenyatta all over again. Good win for Auth.

That was one gutsy effort by Authentic. It looked like Tiz the Law had him at the top of the stretch, but he dug in and held off the odd-on favorite. Don't ever sell Bob Baffert short.

Erin M3 you’re not a horse person, are you? If you were, you’d know that far many more horses (not just race horses) than that die everyday of colic and injury, especially during pasture turnout.

Johnny Rode a Masterful Race. Point blank period. While TTL came out good, Johnny waited to see what happens at start. Controlled the pace like he always do. Authentic's Pedigree shows he may get distance. TTL Belmont was also 3/8 of mile shorter than usual. These are all factors. Just like his obvious dislike for Churchhill. But if there was another speed horse in race it would have been different. Wide trip or not, TTL had opportunity to take lead and didn't. So Authentic did. The start of race is key to this whole thing

Sadly, it was cancelled after a couple years after news broke that my producer and I were caught juicing a rooster named “lil Jerry Seinfeld” for the upcoming bout. Same here. It's always been a dream of mine to own (even the smallest part of) a Kentucky Derby starter, let alone a winner. Watching the replays still gives me chills. This is the best risk I ever took. Congrats on the win, even if it is a bit late!

Boy Authentic really ran that race! Fantastic Derby

Don’t know anything about horse racing, but KZread gave me several ads promoting Authentic, glad to see he came out on top.

A+ to Authentic, and a very good ride by the jockey. Tiz The Law lost due to running too wide for most of the race.

Aww when I was younger like 4 my dad would take me to races and hed always have me choose the horses to bet on and I always had a good eye for the winner lol. I was his lucky picker. My criteria was unknown Id just be like "that one" and bam it would win lol.

Authentic was green in his early races, still seems to fight it a little, but man what a training job by Bob B.-- and great- great ride by JVelasquez-- he let Authentic run his race--- cant wait for Breeders Cup

The only "upset" was Mr. Big News taking third lol. It was always either going to be Tiz the Law or Authentic who would win the Derby. I was expecting Honor A.P. to take third - though if Finnick the Fierce hadn't been scratched, he would have been my third choice.

No it means something to do with the odds. Even tho it isn’t rlly an upset for the money cuz like Authentic was 3rd or 2nd (I’m not sure) favourite. I think it has something to do with MBN coming in 3rd.

This is a really nice game

Got to love Authenthic. The upset for me was NY Traffic. I think Tiz The Law ran a great race, but I don't think he's a fan of Churchill Downs. In addition, I think that this year, in all of the races held at Churchill Downs today, the favorites were not on top of their game. Very excited to see who is going to be crowned the Preakness Winner.

8-1 a "massive" upset? We just had to go two more years to get a true nearly 100-1 MASSIVE upset!

The show horse ran a good race. I noticed halfway through it was cruising nicely without laboring at about middle pack. May be a horse with some good racing ahead.

How is that a “massive upset”? I thought somebody with like 27-1 or 38-1 odds would win. Not the second or third best option lol

Its is a true upset!!! Authentic sire is Into Mischief who never sired a horse at that distance 1mile and a quarter. He is known for sprinting and a mile. The professional bettors and handicappers all said he was distance limited. Look it up., they said he was a toss. LMAO. The jockey give him a Magnificent ride!!!! The horses class( previous G1 winner) , freshness and jockey made the difference. Remarkable he beat TiZ the Law, who look far superior to everyone in the field, on paper and previous victories.

Hardly massive, AUthentic has steadily improved over the summer
