One of the greatest upset races of all time and an announcer that missed the call. If you haven’t seen the multiple moves this jock and horse make you can’t truly appreciate the race. It’s insane. One of my favorite races I’ve ever watched live and I missed it too because I was listening to the play call. Watching it live I caught the winner after the last corner and didn’t see when he let the horse go halfway between the 3rd & 4th corner. He dropped the hammer and it’s really a spectacle.

Bob Knapp The fact that the video clips off that horse for so long, and even more so that his late explosion so confounds the announcer that he's too confused to even acknowledge his presence after he'd taken a good lead, just adds to the surreal intensity. It's as if he couldn't bring himself to acknowledge it because it wasn't even based in reality.

Everyone is talking about the announcer somehow not seeing Mind That Bird, but what about that horse. Halfway through the final turn he found a passing gear. Some racehorses are staying in a stable. One of them starts to boast about his track record. “In the last 15 races, I’ve won eight of them!” Another horse breaks in: “Well in the last 27 races, I’ve won 19!” “Oh that’s good, but in the last 36 races, I’ve won 28!” says another. At this point, the horses notice a greyhound, who has been sitting there listening. “I don’t mean to boast,” says the greyhound, “but in my last 90 races, I’ve won 88 of them!” The horses are clearly amazed. “Wow!” says one, after a hushed silence. “A talking dog!”

SHORT IN STATURE - A GIANT IN WILL Forget that the announcer can not isolate MTB. Neither did anybody else including the camera man or any other commenter including Gary Stevens. Coming around the turn he is LAST. A blur. After the blur, he is literally running diagonally and weaving to the rail while in the stretch every other horse is running straight with forward momentum. Wins by 10 lengths. Watch closely @ 300 yard when COCKY CALVIN 1:58 TURNS HIS BODY SIDEWAYS TO THE BLEACHER AND WHIPS THE DOUBTING CROWD. LITERALLY HE " GAVE THEM THE BIRD ".
