Look for a big horse that either breaks a track record or else comes very close to breaking it. That's a big and fast horse that will probably win the Derby. Most of the Derby winners are big horses. Big horses can overcome problems in the race much easier. That being said, some of the smaller ones KNOW they're the dominant horse. Smarty Jones (2004) is a great example. He was the first undefeated Derby winner.

Seattle Slew was the first undefeated Kentucky Derby winner and the first and only undefeated triple crown winner. A REAL triple crown winner with no point system to help him win it.

You’re only a 3y.r old once.

Looks like they’re running on ground up wood chips or that rubber stuff they put in playgrounds now so the kids don’t break bones. If it’s better for the horses….I’m all for it but it sure makes them run slow. Needed a calendar to time this race. It that’s okay if it’s safer.

I'm happy to say they're not. In an article on this win on BH, his trainer, Michael McCarthy, said his intended next race will be the American Turf Stakes (run May 4 on the turf at Churchill). 👏🏼 🥰

​@@user-tc5sw1es3x personally I'd give it a shot. He's shown turn of foot on the dirt. This field ran harder than the Lousiana Derby. I'd take my chances in the Derby
