The problem is, they’re talking accolades and what Aja deserves (which I believe she deserves more). The WNBA just don’t generate the numbers. The demand for Aja isn’t that high cuz the game doesn’t have viewership. Caitlin by far was the greatest player in college basketball for a couple of years and brought the attention of woman’s basketball to millions. Broke record after record and though she didn’t win, she got there and put up crazy numbers every game. If Aja was generating millions per game, she probably would have more deals. But she don’t. Nike is just capitalizing on the hot ticket right now, which is Caitlin Clark

What’s laughable is your comparison of some A’ja Wilson fans to the sheer number of Caitlin fans. Sorry but A’ja doesn’t move the needle. The fact that you are so close to the WNBA and think she’s so big, when no one outside of the hardest core fan knows her, illustrates the point that you can’t see that the the rest of the world has no clue of A’Ja. Result: no shoe deal. Get real.

Why does CC move the needle? Because they marketed her. Aja Wilson was not marketed and still the Aces sold out their season tickets and still she was listed as one of Times top 100 influential women, and still she scored 53 points in a game (she ranks 1st in defense and offense). So imagine how much the needle would be moved if espn and everyone else that shoved CC downs our throats marketed her.

And Nike gave her that deal because she is very marketable to people like you. I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. I'm 63-year old Black Man (not that my master status should matter...but apparently to you blackness matters!) and Air Force Veteran, and former USAF women’s basketball coach. And an avid supporter of Women's College Basketball and the WNBA. And have always supported the NCAAWs and the WNBAs endeavor to grow women's sports. However, can we stop the race-baiting every time the media or a company promotes or rewards Caitlin Clark. Because...in business timing is everything! It was like this when Larry Bird and Indiana State lost to Magic Johnson and Michigan State-in the NCAA Finals in 1979, and both of them when on to have all-star careers in the NBA-with both of them winning multiple championship-culminating with both being inducted in the NBA Hall of Fame. Albeit they both respected each other, and most importantly the game-becoming great embassies of the game and for the international growth of basketball, going on to represent this country on the biggest stage in sports...the Olympics! Most important, I didn't her an outrage by white or alumni fans of NCAAWs college basketball schools complaining when Nike made a shoe deal with coach Dawn Staley of South Carolina or when Nike made a shoe deal with Coach Deion Sanders of Colorado both of whom are black. Nor did I hear an outrage by white fans of the WNBA or just plain old American basketball fans of their favorite WNBA team complaining about A'ja Wilson getting a book deal and touring last year to promote her book, "Dear Black Girls." And we definitely can't claim that Nike is a prejudice company because they make shoe deals with more black athletes than any other sneakers company! As an American (oops I forgot my blackness...as a black-American) as Dr King stated...just judge people (or in this case a company like Nike) by the corporate character and not always revert back to making this a skin color issue. When I invest in a S&P 500 mutual fund or an Electronic Traded Fund (ETF) I don't worry about the master status or color of the CEO, concern myself with the return of investment (ROI); and in this case that's exactly what Nike has been doing since they signed Michael Jordan to their company's first pro-athlete shoe deal! It's economics 101 - it's not about the color of one's' skin that determines whether or not a company selects a certain athlete to endorse its product-it's about the project revenue a.k.a. ROI! Like in the movie: Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps... where the color of money doesn't count.

The women in this video are unartful with their words, but their argument is that an A'ja Wilson signature shoe would be profitable due to her on-court excellence, her history of winning and her team's strong attendance. They could be right but they have no actual data to support their position. They're not lobbying for A'ja to get a ten-figure deal like Caitlin but for A'ja to be given the opportunity to at least be in the shoe game. The question is whether there's enough interest/demand among girls/women/WNBA fans for such a shoe to be profitable. They say that Nike hasn't done the research but they really don't know.

What people got understand is the wow factor gets you the money as a athlete. If you are a freak of nature like say Zion or Lebron then you get the 100 million dollar deal before you touch the league. Even a guy like Luka is not very athletic but does all type of trick shots and does things like score 70. CC getting that deal is becaue she shooting logo 3's and setting records. It's something different for the women. CC getting that deal over Aja is like asking why Lebron got his deal over Tim Duncan. Aja for a purest is fun to watch but she really doesn't have any wow factor as a basketball player. It's always really hard for the women to break ground there because for the most part they are fundamentally sound players who aren't jumping out the gym or doing something like shooting logo 3's.They just play great fundamental ball which is good for wins but you not moving no product unless your layups look like Kyrie's, or Jordan etc. Not trying to disrespect them but that's the truth.

Jokich mvp last year he had to go with a Chinese shoe company to get an exclusive shoe deal. Look at the nba players signed to Nike exclusive deals are black players. It has nothing to do with race it has to do with who brings more excitement and will sell shoes. It's Economics it wouldn't matter if the player was purple if they excite the fan base they will buy the products they are associated with. It's not a black or white issue. My hope is that Caitlin will bring more eyes to the product so that when Arike Ogunbowale appears in a State Farm commercial with Mark Cuban people know who she is. Why should Nike get Asia a shoe when our people have already proven we don’t buy black female athletes shoes or merch. I’ve never seen anyone wear Serena Williams gear. Nike already knows a bunch of white girls are gonna buy Clark’s shoes. You can’t tell a company how to run their business that has the most diverse representation ever. When y’all cry and beg for stuff it gives entitlement. Get over it.

They didn't have a shoe deal till Clark because they didn't want another failing product. Imagine if Nike had to keep hypothetical Aja shoes on the shelves for equity and representation despite it not selling. Now both NBA and Nike would be subsidizing at a loss.

I'm a Filipino American and not because she's white, but because of that ability that I haven't seen in women's basketball period. Juju Watkins is also my favorite and I will be watching her.. I hope she breaks Caitlin Clark's record. She's black, but she moves like a pro and no other women players move like that. She's my next favorite. Like Rebecca Lobo had said no one has ever get that much attention in NCAA women's basketball ever!!!!!!

Hi ladies. I must say that as somebody that never really followed the WNBA. Except for a very few players and in particular back in the days, I never heard of Asia until now!. I know about Reese, Cardosa, Clarke, Watkins and few others. They haven't even played a professional game yet! Yes race is always in the background. But at the same time one has to be easily marketable. Maye Cardosa and Reese will shine like the star they are and BE. But Asia apparently isn't known by casual or non fans. It is what it is.

@@natfluential My bad. Interesting I've heard and seen Aja in tik tok shorts lol. Pop up in my algorithm due to Reese, Cardosa and possibly Clarke. I will have to check her out and see what's up. Marketability is based on it being instant. Think of Lebron, Jordan and others getting deals before they step on the big stage. It's even harder for women because they have to appear as if they are relatable to straight men. Deeper topic. But so much to it. Why not see what Reese or even Cardosa does, they might be more marketable.

I think your opinions are based on the hope for social justice rather than Capitalist facts that move products so you need to examine economic reality. Iowa’s Kate Martin, CC’s teammate, was drafted by the Las Vegas aces.
