Being a super horse doesn't guarantee winning the Triple Crown. I doubt very much this horse is as good as either Native Dancer or Spectacular Bid, the two greatest horses to win 2/3 of the Triple Crown but who lost one of the three. (The Derby for ND, his only loss, and the Belmont for Bid.) Both have been ranked in the 10 greatest U.S. Thoroughbreds of the 20th century. Look at Spectacular Bid's Florida Derby win, where he won going away after one of the world's most terrible rides. THAT was a super horse. Forte is obviously a very good horse. Off his current record, he deserves to be the Derby favorite. I doubt he is a super horse.

@@question_it_701 You must have been watching the wrong horse. Mage broke poorly, was quickly last, took a ton of dirt in the face, was forced to go 5 wide around the 1st turn, then circled the field five wide throughout. It was his 3rd lifetime start, and his trip will most likely having him getting a lower fig than Forte. Forte is the champ, but Mage ran at least as good a race as Forte, probably better, and will improve more.

@@fgyuighjhvuhhgggjihm Sarcasm my friend. :) I like Mage....I was trying to sarcastically point out that he had a rough trip also. I was really high on Mage. Now the last couple days...I saw info that Practical Move ran the fastest 1 1/16th mile prep AND the fastest 1 1/8 mile prep of all of derby horses, and it was by a wide margin. So I've added him to my "list". Problem is, my list is getting longer, not shorter like I want it to be! Good luck!

Mage ran a monster race. The type of turn move and flattening in the stretch but still running the final eighth in 12 and one fifth proves he is a very serious racehorse. If he figures out the start, He is going to be a major force this year.

Mage went to early he had a lot of horse saez should of waited till forte made his move going into the stretch he wouldn't of seen him coming
Forte showed me he is the horse that will not be denied. Mage had him dead to right’s and Forte still ran by him. A definite favorite for the KD, or at the top of the list of potential favorites anyway.

Toss him. He won't be able to sweep through 20 horses like that. This was a race led 3/4s of the way by a slow horse.

@@elderscrollforever378 considering the standard for gate speed on the east coast being 22 and change to the 1/4 the horse who set the pace went out on 23 he then doubled it up with 46 and 3 to the 1/2 I've been in and around this sport nearly 35 years do you need a lesson on speed in the North American Thoroughbred and how it works?

I can show you in this way, that was a very strong closing kick because I thought for sure Mage had him. He still came on and would not be denied. Straight up Beast. Angel of Empire might be the one of the number of stand outs to give him a go. Time will tell.

@Christopher Elmore Individuals don't realize is that 20 horses in a field is far different than 8 to 10 horses. You draw that outside post that's traveling. You draw the inside post. You could get pinched at the rail and get sent way back slowing the horse down to maybe never being able to recover. 20 horse field is no joke.

Forte gobbles up the ground. I think this year's derby will be a good one. There are several contenders this year. It's all about the trip. The last derby Strike It Rich got an incredible ride. May God Bless all the contenders for a safe clean race.

Forty needs to watch the traffic in the derby with the big field.
Impressive. Forte was heavily lathered by the time he entered the gate, thus the coat of dirt he wore at the end. And none of the commentators mentioned how Forte was trying to turn his head around 180 degrees while in the gate; the assistant starter must have arms like Popeye. Powerful move in the last 100 yards.

A ver...Aqui algunos dan estadisticas y no hablan de las fuentes de informacion.Segun wikipedia,Saez empezo a montar en EEUU en el 2009 y lleva 2,694 y sumando.Ortiz empezo en el 2,011 y lleva mas de 3,000 y sumando.Mas carreras ganadas en menos tiempo.Cual es la conclusion??? Looked to be bit flat into the lane but his last 100 yards was elite ridden without the whip, suggesting the jockey was giving him a soft run to the line. Will be strong at the ten furlongs.

No, I think he was just fine because at the end he pricked his ears up and that is usually a good sign. He will be just fine in the KD. You know that this Derby will be very tactical indeed and it will be very good for Forte and about five others.
